Are you interested in learning about one of the simple weight loss hacks I share at my Effective Weight Loss Strategies class? I tell attendees that the program is divided into two parts; the initial lecture and the guided experience.
Believe it or not even if for some strange reason you opted out of the hypnosis experience, what you will learn in the first section would be more than enough to get you on the right track. Nonetheless, the guided process really does help-and feels good too!
One set of hacks involves late night snacking. Very often a person will report eating a normal breakfast, an average lunch and an OK size dinner. But then the late night snacking kicks in and all hell breaks loose as far as the day's calorie count goes. This is kind of peculiar since you really can't be physically hungry an hour of two after your main meal of the day. It's safe to say that you are eating for a reason other than hunger. What can be done?
One proven strategy is to decrease the places in your home where you allow yourself to eat, in particular in front of the TV or computer. Our brains learn by association and unwittingly you can train yourself that whenever you sit in front of the TV, food goes along with that. Establishing an 'eating zone' such as your dining room can disrupt this kind of habit patterning.
Another involves fasting. Now if I asked you to fast for 24 hours you could probably do that, but you probably wouldn't be very happy with me. However, I'm not going to ask you to do that. If I suggested fasting for 12 hours, that might seem a bit more doable. 6 hours would seem even more manageable, but I am not even asking for that. We are going to shoot for just 2 hours.
Let's say you regularly snack around 9 or 10 PM. Commit to a two hour fast between the hours of 9 to 11 each evening, only water permitted. In doing so you will disrupt the habit and take back control. You could handle that, right?
It's helpful to put up a reminder post-it note that says "water fast from 9 to 11 PM." The bathroom or bedroom mirrors would be good locations to place them.
I will be sharing ideas just like this at my next Effective Weight Loss Strategies class, visit the Upcoming Events page to learn more. It's appropriate for newcomers as well as those in need of a refresher course- bring a friend! I hope to see you there.
